oscar mayer weiners (and I don't mean that in a good way)

Why oh why can't they just make their little movies, take their little trophies and shut their stupid mouths? I swear, I can't take it anymore. For some reason I felt compelled to watch the Oscars this year but I tried and I just can't do it.

It started on the red carpet with some ditzy actress showing off her orange ribbon so proudly and saying it was for Gitmo. "We have to close Guantanomo because it's creating danger in the world," she gushed. Let's see, when the terrorists capture one of our guys they behead them, burn their bodies and drag them through the streets. When we capture one of their guys, they get three meals a day and special diets in keeping with their religious beliefs. The same religious beliefs that inspire them to kill us, the infidels. That doesn't make us evil, that makes us suckers. Of course Michael Moore was next and he couldn't help but apologize to the world on behalf of America. What nerve. He and all the other Hollywood assholes are living the American dream and biting the hand that feeds them. They're dripping with diamonds, wearing multi-thousand dollar gowns and have the audacity to act like they really, really care about things that matter. The reason they're dropping like flies from overdoses and heading to rehab like lemmings is because they actually don't care about things that matter. They don't even know the first thing about what really matters.

Never mind that most of them have barely finished high-school and most never even dabbled in higher education. Yet the American public laps up the dreck that pours out of their pretty little mouths like it's golden. The most terrifying thing is that these morons actually affect public opinion and shape public policy!

I hate them. I hate their materialistic, socialistic, shallow, vapid ways. I resent the fact that they actually had to give the Oscars a PG rating for language because they can never predict what will come out of those low-lifes mouths on live TV. I hate the fact that they had Jon Stewart as the host. He may be funny but everyone knows he's a left-winger and we would all be subjected to his personal remarks about Bush and the war. Would they have considered for one moment having a conservative equivalent of Jon as the host? Hell no. That's the thing about the Hollywood liberal elitists. They are the most intolerant, hypocritical jerks in the world.

I hate them.

Wow it felt good to get that out.

* Denzel Washington is excluded from this rant, just FYI.

Hehehe. I like your title best.

My beef is with all of these celebs who wear the ribbons and rant away to the press, but then do nothing to change their lives.

At least Susan Sarandon and ones like Leo DiCaprio actually try to LIVE what they believe--be it living green, etc.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but I am tired of celebrities thinking that their vote means more than the rest of ours. Because, guess what...IT DOESN'T and I don't care who you are voting for EITHER! HA

The sad fact is that the majority of America looks to celebrities as role models, whether they deserve it or not. I have to say that if I felt strongly about a cause, and was in a position for people, however misguided, to give a crap what I think, I would probably use my position to further whatever cause it was. HOWEVER, I like to think I would do more than just champion my cause -- I would live it and try to set the best example possible. For the misguided masses.

Lucky for me, no one gives a crap what I think. ;)

I give a crap what you think, Lisabell! ;-)

Another point I forgot to make was wouldn't it be interesting if Hollywood was overwhelmingly CONSERVATIVE and wore ribbons to support the troops or protest the open border with Mexico. I wonder how liberals would feel if they had to hear that message constantly harped on from almost every news outlet and movie star in America....hmmmmm

I apologize in advance because my nerves are completely raw because I've been sick for more than a week and this stupid cold just won't go away (and yes I tried various sore throat remedies like you did, Lisa), so please, if I'm being stupid, just remember that I'm stupid and it's just me being stupid and nothing personal.

Yes, Jon Stewart is left-wing. But he at least will take shots at Democrats when they do stupid things. And the Dems have no shortage of stupid things they have done. I've tried watching Dennis Miller since he became political. I don't care that he's conservative; I care that he just isn't funny anymore. Routines about how global warming is crap because he can go back to his hotel and cool the room 10 degrees in 5 minutes? HIL-arious. Last night Jon Stewart made fun of Barack Obama's name. You think a conservative comic woulda made fun of a Republican's name?

For the record, comedian Larry Miller (no relation to Dennis) is conservative, and he's funny. And I think that like Dennis Miller, Janeane Garofalo stopped being funny when she got political. (And if you think she wasn't funny before either, well, it certainly didn't get any better after).

Celebrities think fame makes them important. Unfortunately, the mass public does little to persuade them otherwise. I'm not one to defend vapid celebrities. I do respect the ones that will at least actually do something rather than just saying or wearing a piece of jewelry. Like Harry Connick Jr. in New Orleans ... or yes, even Sean Penn in New Orleans. (But Sean Penn in Iraq with Saddam ... ok, WTF, Sean??).

I'm not sure most celebrities have that much influence on public opinion anymore. People like Barbra Streisand have been kinda marginalized as far as that goes. Although as far as most celebrities not finishing high school or college ... isn't that just like a lot of the rest of the country?

It isn't just liberal celebrities that accidentally cuss on live TV. Kyle Petty during a NASCAR telecast for one. Yes, our language has coarsened and there's something to be said for dialing things back. But cussing isn't a liberal-only thing. Just look at our president and especially VP.

People don't want to close Gitmo because of the prisoners we treat well. They want to close it because of the abuses. I'm personally fine with keeping it open, but we're supposed to be a beacon to the world. We can't give our enemies an easy metaphorical target to hit us with. We're supposed to be better.

Yes, those same religious beliefs that pious Muslims follow and that we allow prisoners to observe at Gitmo are completely indistinguishable from the ones that some use to inspire hate and murder against us. I know everyone on my mom's side of my family wants nothing better than to see me and all other Americans beheaded and dragged through the streets. It's all I can do to get out of their country alive whenever we visit them, what with all the suicide bombers I'm dodging every block. Every visit to this most populated Muslim country in the world, all I see are Americans constantly being spit upon and beaten up and thrown off rootops, all that murderous hate in everyone's eyes, even little Muslim children stabbing me in the kidney as I try to pass on the street. I know Christians and Hindus and Jews have never corrupted religious faith to murder others, so thank God for that.

Extremists suck, no matter what faith (or lack thereof). But I'd like to think that Hollywood elites are at least a little better than the minority of Muslims who really do want to behead us and lock women up and all that.

I apologize again; I've had a bad 10 days fighting this cold and losing all patience with everything around me. If I'm just being stupid, then take it for what it is, me being stupid.

Wow Dipu! I didn't even know you read my blog! Welcome ;-) Thanks for your heartfelt comments, you made some good points. However, I do have to disagree with the part about abuse at Gitmo. There is no evidence of that. If there is, please show it to me because I have yet to see it. And the whole Abu Ghraib thing was perpetrated by a couple of bad apples yet the American media had to run that story front page for two or three months and smear our entire military for it. But that's another whole blog post...

Hope you feel better soon!

Blame your sis; she linked to ya... :-)

Okay, I guess Gitmo was more about the Geneva Convention issue and people sitting for years without trials, some of whom might have been innocent or in the wrong place at the wrong time. (I'm not saying they're all innocent; I know there are real terrorists in there). I guess my point is that, at the very least, we need better marketing. We're not selling ourselves well to those who are/were/should be our allies. We're supposed to be the global leaders. And then when we send prisoners somewhere and say screw the Geneva Convention, we just look like a big bully, whether that's right or not. And no one wants to help the big bully. And when we go around picking and choosing which international treaties we want to follow while insisting other countries follow all of them, we appear arrogant. That doesn't help our cause much in the international community. I'm not saying we need to bend to the will of the U.N. or other nations, but we often make it harder for others to support us. We end up looking no different from any run-of-the-mill nation. Is it fair that we're held to a higher standard? Maybe not. But shouldn't we be holding ourselves to a higher standard already anyway?

As for a cold remedy, given my vast improvement over just the past 5 hours, can I just say that steroids and antibiotics rule!!!

Okay, Dipu. This is the last I'm going to say on this subject (for now). I have other things I need to write about ;-)!

As for the international community, they did not abandon us in the war on terror because of Gitmo or because they think we're bullies. They abandoned us because they have their own agendas (oil) that have nothing to do with our national security. The only people with a vested interest in what happens to us, is US. They can bash us all they want but who do they look to whenever there's a crisis like a tsunami or earthquake? Who is the first and the most generous to respond when bad things happen??? The American people. We are held to a higher standard and we live up to that standard. I couldn't care less about winning a popularity contest with the corrupted UN or with the sissy, crooked French. They can kiss my ass. I would rather prevent another 9/11 and live my safe little life with my family in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

So there!

Ha!

That's all I have to say about that. I'm glad you're feeling better!

Who said anything about listening to the French? Screw them. Europe hates us no matter what we do. But beyond our shores, there's a ton more people out there besides spoiled Europeans, corrupt leaders, loony leftists, and brown swarthy terrorists. And the less that average foreigners despise us, the more those others will be marginalized and the safer we'll be at home and abroad. Our safety requires a multi-pronged attack; this is just one of those.
